"Tousled Tresses on Trend for Grad"

Grad is fast approaching, and ladies everywhere are searching for the perfect dress, shoes and hairdo to boot.
Just like with clothing, hair trends come and go and this year's hot look is "perfectly imperfect," according to Tara Main, director at Zazou Salon & Spa.
Styles are smooth, polished, and pulled back away from the face but the ends of the hair are tousled, disheveled and pinned into a design, says Main.
"We're seeing this on the runway at Prada and Alexander McQueen and in magazines such as Nylon... The whole perfectly poised polished look is not conducive to today's trends."
But don't worry about showing up to prom looking like everyone else - this hairstyle can be tailored to suit your personality.
"Some people will have it more polished and smooth through the top and maybe have a lower chignon, off to the side. Some might want it up high. You can even do asymmetrical looks," says Main.
The Mohican look is also still popular, seen either with a pompadour through the front or smoothed sides with tousled tendrils piled on top, which works best with heavily layered hair.
"It's really edgy, but it can also look really romantic as well," says Main, adding fewer girls are opting to let their locks loose this season.
"Everything's kind of changed from the boho look to the indie look, so we're not seeing a lot of hair left down anymore. It's more playful and fun."
Still, no look can be complete without the right products and Main has two recommendations for the big night.
- Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid adds shine and helps get rid of frizz. Retail value: $32.
- Davines Crystal Fixitive Lacquer is an aerosol hair spray that will hold any style in place all night. Retail value: $29.99
